Falmouth

Falmouth has, unsurprisingly, left a rather impressive assortment of chemist bottles from a number of companies.

Harris

The bottle shown below is extremely unusual in that it is a fairly standard ‘Pure Sewing Machine Oil’ bottle similar to those commonly found all over the UK but in this case it has ‘J.Harris / Falmouth’ embossed on its reverse.

This bottle does not relate to a chemist firm but as it fits well with the category it is included here. It would seem to be sensible to assume it is related to Harris & Son of 39 Killigrew Street who are listed in 1898 as hairdressers, tobacconists and sewing machine depot.

Oliver

Seth Harry Oliver MPS first appears in the trade directories in 1926 so just falls into the end of the period covered in this CD, he is listed at premises in Market Street, Falmouth.

Stevens

Andrew Stevens is listed at 52 Church St, Falmouth between 1873 and 1909 but does not appear to have left any artefacts that have been recovered as yet.

Wilmer

Frederick Joseph Wilmer is listed at premises in Market Strand, Falmouth between 1883 & 1906. In 1912 to 1926 the premises are used by Wilmer & Hocking.

The Wilmer name seems to be found on the majority of recovered artefacts from Falmouth.

Woodward

A. Dawson Woodward is listed in the trade directory of 1926 at 39 Arwenack St, Falmouth, his only legacy currently appears to be a copper printing plate bearing the design of his bottle labels.
