Plymouth Co-operative

One of the largest chemists in Plymouth, the Plymouth Co-operative Drug Co’s paper labels bore a superb phoenix trade mark as shown in the printing plate below, sadly none appear to have been embossed in the same way.

The company is awkward to track as, being part of the Plymouth Co-operative Society, it tends to be lumped into larger multi-address listings for the whole of the Co-op. It seemingly first appears in 1902 in the 20 Cornwall St premises previously occupied by the Plymouth Drug Co and then in various locations across the three towns.

The County Co-operative Drug Co of Old Town St, Plymouth appears to be an unrelated company, further adding to the confusion.
