Rendle / Rendall

Two spellings of the name, Rendle & Rendall, are covered in this section.

Rendle & Co is known from its ginger beer bottles and codd bottles bearing its details, all of which are particularly rare finds. The company operated from premises at 56 Albert Road, Stoke between 1889 and 1914, and is listed as a soda water manufacturer from around 1901 – 1907.

Interestingly, the codd bottle below is marked “manufacturing chemists” drawing attention to the fact that Rendle, along with many other small mineral water producers, were indeed chemists who produced these products as part of their range.

The Rendall name is associated with Plymouth from the ceramic medicine spoon below and another similar spoon, the I.M. Rendall company name does not seem to appear in any of the trade directories consulted. However, the name may actually be J.M. Rendall as there are trade directory listings in 1852 – 1893 of John Murly Rendall with premises in Torquay and Exeter and premises (in 1862) at 2 Bank Of England Place, Plymouth (later being occupied by Frederick Foster some time between 1862 and 1878).
