Spear

Frederick Augustus operated from 68 Old Town St, Plymouth between 1912 and 1937 or later. He appears to be yet another company only known from a copper printing plate for his labels.

For those who may be wondering, the printing plates shown in this CD were all part of a hoard of 1200 such printing plates recovered from a disused printing works in Yorkshire. The author was lucky enough to be able to obtain all the examples from Devon & Cornwall, a sum total of nine plates and they are an incredibly rare survival when viewed in the context of scrap metal values to demolition contractors.
