Truro

 

Truro has left a variety of bottles and pot lids although due to the inaccessibility of local dumps of the period these are somewhat limited in comparison to what is likely to have existed.

 

 

Anthony

 

Thomas Anthony is listed at St.Nicholas Street between 1893 and 1902, the bottle below appears to be the only example known at present.

 

 

Bucher

 

William Henry Bücher is listed at 31 Boscawen Street from 1883 to 1906, the 1914 trade directory lists the premises under the ‘executors of’ W.H. Bücher.

 

The company’s items are fairly prolific in terms of Truro items and the button lids are found in a number of sizes.

Cannon

 

Arthur Charles Cannon is listed in the 1926 trade directory at the 31 Boscawen Street premises previously occupied by William Henry Bücher.

 

At some time later the company has become Cannon & Collins operating from the same address, this latter company being known from the copper printing plate below.

Percy

 

Thomas Bickle Percy was a manufacturing chemist operating from various premises in Truro and is listed between 1873 and 1914 although due to the differing descriptions of his business in the trade directories these dates may not reflect the full life of the company.

 

The company is known from two main products, Percy’s Pectoral Balsam and Percy’s Rennet. The Pectoral Balsam bottles are octagonal and found in two sizes with variations in glass colour, they are a relatively expensive item to acquire due to their general appeal.

 

The Percy’s Rennet bottles, however, are much more mundane and rated as such by collectors.

Serpell

 

Samuel Serpell is listed in the 1873 trade directory as operating from 10 & 11 Lemon Street, Truro.
